Reid looks to link gun control fight to ObamaCare repeal

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is poised to reignite a battle over gun control as part of an ObamaCare repeal effort currently being debated by the Senate.

The Democratic leader has introduced an amendment to the reconciliation bill that would make it illegal to sell or give a gun to someone who has been charged with blocking, or trying to block, someone from getting reproductive care with force or the threat of force.

{mosads}While Reid’s amendment has only been filed and not formally teed up, he is expected to push for a vote Thursday.

Reid’s move follows a shooting last week at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colo., that killed three.

Democrats have repeatedly criticized Republicans for their rhetoric toward the organization, which has been under the congressional spotlight since a series of videos raised questions about the group’s use of fetal tissue.

Speaking from the Senate floor earlier Wednesday, Reid accused Republicans of campaigning on a “platform of hate,” adding that they “demagogue women seeking healthcare through Planned Parenthood.”

He also called on the House lawmakers to disband their committee investigating the organization in the wake of last week’s shooting. Republicans have suggested that the committee will continue its probe.
