Flake says ICE decision to release detainees ‘jeopardizes’ safety
“This action further jeopardizes the safety and security of our southern border while illustrating perfectly why Americans don’t trust the federal government to repair our broken immigration system,” Flake said Monday.
{mosads}ICE said it released only “noncriminal” detainees, who are on supervised release to save money, but did not drop their deportation cases.
In the letter, Flake asked for specific information he said would directly affect his home state of Arizona, which borders Mexico. Flake asked how many detainees were released, what charges have been brought against each detainee and how the plan saves money.
Republicans have complained that the administration’s decision not to enforce current immigration laws undermines discussions on comprehensive immigration reform under way in Congress.
