Reid: ‘There is an end in sight’ on immigration bill
Reid said, “there is an end in sight” on the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, adding that he hopes a bipartisan amendment from Sens. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) will be offered on Thursday addressing border security — something Republicans have said is vital to the bill.
{mosads}“Let’s see what they have to offer on border security,” Reid said. “It cannot get in the way of the integrity of this bill, which is a pathway to citizenship.”
Reid said senators should prepare for a roll call vote at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, although there is no amendment agreement at the moment.
“Senators should be ready for a roll call vote at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow,” Reid said before adjourning the Senate for the day. “We’re doing our utmost to make it as convenient as possible to have votes, but we may have to be here this weekend.”
Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) has threatened to block any additional amendment votes until a list of noncontroversial amendments is agreed to. Reid assured her that both sides were working hard to come up with a list.
The Senate has considered only 11 amendments to the bill so far.
