Reid: Boehner should ‘get away’ from the Hastert Rule
Reid said that if Boehner wasn’t using the rule named after former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), the House could pass the bipartisan Senate farm bill and immigration reform bill.
{mosads}“The only Republicans who aren’t convinced [immigration reform is needed] are here in Washington, in the House of Representatives,” Reid said. “Our responsibility didn’t end with that vote. It is now our job to convince our colleagues in the House to also pass the legislation.”
Reid said if Boehner continues to insist on using the Hastert Rule, any legislation passed in the House has “no hope of passing” in the Senate or being signed by the president.
Reid pointed out that the House couldn’t even pass its own farm bill last month, therefore Boehner should try to pass the Senate farm bill with the help of Democrats.
