Reid files cloture on Obama’s nominees to ATF, United Nations
The bureau hasn’t had a leader for seven years.
{mosads}“Enough is enough,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said on the Senate floor Monday. “I’m very glad we’re moving forward on this nomination. … They deserve a full-time leader.”
Jones currently serves as the Minnesota U.S. attorney. Democrats have complained that Republicans have opposed a leader of the ATF because of the National Riffle Association’s powerful gun-lobby.
Democrats will need at least six Republicans to join with them to end debate on Jones’s nomination. The cloture vote hasn’t been scheduled yet, but if cloture is invoked there would then be eight hours of debate before a final vote.
Reid also filed cloture on the nomination of Samantha Power to be the U.S. Representative to the United Nations. Power is a much less controversial nominee, and will likely to be confirmed.
