McConnell: VA claims backlog is a ‘national disgrace’
{mosads}Lawmakers have criticized the VA for having a backlog of more than 700,000 claims — many of which have been pending for more than a year. The spike in VA disability claims are partially a result of service members returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In a speech last week, Obama acknowledged that more needed to be done to address the large backlog, but McConnell said the president should be more directly involved.
“I have personally advocated, and will continue to advocate, that the president himself take direct action and involvement to end the VA backlog,” McConnell said. “He needs to do more.”
