GOP senator: Trump should stop tweeting

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) is offering some advice to President Trump: Stop tweeting.

“I would suggest that he not send tweets, at all,” Collins told Yahoo News. “I don’t think he would follow it. I think he’s very fond of Twitter.”

Collins — who was asked about Trump’s inaccurate claim that more than 120 Guantanamo Bay detainees released by President Obama had “returned to the battlefield” — advised that the president should make sure he knows the facts before he tweets.

“Look, if I were advising President Trump, I’d say, ‘put your Twitter account on hold and make sure that you are not sending out this storm of tweets before you are sure of your facts,'” she said.

{mosads}She added that Trump “obviously needs to get more intelligence briefings and to be more precise.”

Trump’s penchant for late-night and early morning tweeting has drawn frustration from GOP lawmakers who are frequently hounded by reporters about his comments.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told reporters last month that he’s not a “fan of the extra discussion that he likes to engage in.”

“I’ve been pretty candid with him and all of you that I’m not a fan of the daily tweets,” he said.
