Comey to testify before Senate Judiciary Committee

FBI Director James Comey will testify next month before a Senate committee on FBI oversight.

The Senate Judiciary Committee announced on Wednesday that Comey will take part in a hearing on May 3 on “Oversight of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

The meeting is part of an annual oversight hearing held by the Judiciary Committee at which Comey has previously testified.

But the hearing will mark the first time Comey has publicly appeared before a Senate committee since the start of the Trump administration.

{mosads}Comey previously testified to the House Intelligence Committee, where he confirmed for lawmakers that the FBI is investigating Russia’s meddling in the presidential election and any potential ties between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

He also testified in January before the inauguration in the Senate Intelligence Committee’s hearing on Russian interference in the election. He has met several times in closed-door briefings since the inauguration with members of the committee, who are conducting a probe into the 2016 election.

A Senate Judiciary subcommittee — overseen by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) — is conducting its own investigation into Russia’s meddling.

Former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper are scheduled to testify before Graham’s subcommittee next month as part of his investigation.

Graham and Whitehouse, as well as Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), have also previously met with Comey on the FBI’s investigation.
