Warren knocks Trump: Tweets won’t ‘keep your people out of jail’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is firing back at President Trump after he called her “Pocahontas” and referenced her criticism of the Democrat’s 2016 presidential primary. 

Warren, seen as a leading Democratic contender in 2020 if she chooses to run for president, said Trump is trying “to change the subject” after his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was charged as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the U.S. election. 

“You might think your tweets are cute … but they won’t stop Mueller’s investigation or keep your people out of jail,” Warren tweeted on Friday.

{mosads}Trump has called on the FBI to investigate Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) over its political activities during the party’s 2016 primary process. 

Former interim DNC chairwoman Donna Brazile, in an excerpt from her new book, cites a fundraising agreement put into place before she took over as chairwoman as “proof” that the 2016 Democratic presidential primary was rigged in Clinton’s favor. 

Warren, asked by CNN whether she thought the primary was rigged against Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Clinton’s opponent in the race, offered a simple “yes” on Thursday.

That led Trump to mention her during a morning series of tweets. In doing so, Trump brought back his derisive “Pocahontas” nickname for Warren — a derogatory reference to her claims of Native American heritage.

Warren countered on Friday that while the Democratic Party “shouldn’t play favorites … that’s a whole lot different from illegally conspiring with Russia. The FBI knows the difference.” 

“Slurs, lies & trash talk won’t stop the FBI from doing its job. This isn’t a dictatorship. It’s our democracy. And it’s stronger than you,” she added.
