A closer look at next week

Tuesday

The Senate continues work on the FAA bill before adjourning for a Senate Democrat retreat.

The House will meet at 2 p.m. to consider reauthorization of funding for the USA Patriot Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 and for the Intelligence Reform of Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004. The House will also take up a bill to extend trade adjustment assistance from the Andean Trade Preference Act.

Votes will be postponed until 6:30 p.m. and will be considered under suspension of House rules.

Wednesday

The House meets at 10 a.m. for morning-hour debate. At noon it will consider a bill to name a federal courthouse in Arizona after slain judge John M. Roll, and a bill to demand the return to the United States the $179 million overpaid into the United Nations Tax Equalization Fund. Both bills will be considered under a suspension of the rules. The UN bill is the result of the Republican’s “You Cut” program, which lets people vote on what programs to cut or other measures to take to save federal funds.

Thursday

The House will meet at 10 a.m. for morning debate. At noon the House will consider a resolution directing certain committees to inventory and review existing, pending, and proposed regulations and orders from agencies of the federal government, particularly with respect to their effect on jobs and economic growth. This resolution will be subject to a rule that is expected to be approved on Tuesday.

The Senate is expected to return today, and could be in Friday as well. The Senate is expected to take up the trade bill that the House is scheduled to consider on Tuesday.

Friday

The House will meet at 9 a.m. for legislative business and complete consideration of the resolution instructing committees to inventory regulations.

Last votes will occur no later than 3:00 p.m.
