10 percent of House misses Monday votes

If Congress were graded on attendance today, it would have received an A-.

Nearly 10 percent of all House members were missing for two Monday evening votes. The first vote was on a bill aimed at boosting transparency in federal spending patterns — 42 members missed that vote, 20 Republicans and 21 Democrats.

{mosads}The second vote was on a bill naming a building in Florida, that 43 members missed that vote. In that vote, 22 Republicans and 20 Democrats were missing.

There are currently 431 members in the House, and four vacancies, which means 44 missing members would put the absentee rate just above ten percent.

The House rarely sees attendance dip to 90 percent, although when it happens, it tends to happen on Monday, a day when many are traveling back to Washington. It last happened back in July, on a Monday.
