An apparent postal snafu resulted in a Chicago-area woman receiving personal Christmas gifts sent from President Obama and his family intended for the godmother of Sasha and Malia.
Alane Church told WLS News that she received a box of Christmas gifts late because of damage during the shipping process. When the package arrived, it included an already opened second box inside — including personal gifts from the first family.
{mosads}In a subsequent interview with NBC’s “Today” show, Church said the box included a “beautiful, personal” picture book featuring pictures of Sasha and Malia Obama.
She told the network the album featured “very special, private moments of their year of 2013 together.”
“Parts of the old box were in this toilet paper box that the post office repackaged,” she said. “In the bottom of the box was this extra gift. And we were reading the tag, trying to figure out, you know, where this came from, and it was opened.”
WLS reported that the package included a gift tag saying the presents were to “Mama Kaye and Papa Wellington” from “Barack, Michelle, and the girls.”
Kaye Wilson is the Obama daughters’ godmother, and a longtime friend of the first family.
The White House confirmed that the package was from the first family to the Associated Press.
Church told NBC that she plans to mail the book along to Wilson.
