Online shop sells ‘Rand Paul Eye Chart’
Sen. Rand Paul has his eye on some campaign cash and might be the first White House hopeful to hawk an eye chart on his campaign’s website.
The Kentucky Republican, who’s an ophthalmologist, kicked off his presidential bid Tuesday with an announcement on his eponymous campaign website. The “Rand Paul Eye Chart” is one of a limited number of items on the site’s online store.
“We need a president who can see clearly, so why not start with one that knows vision and sight better than any other candidate,” reads a product description for the poster board chart.
{mosads}“Professionally, he has corrected the vision of thousands and now will do the same thing in the White House … and we’re not talking about a new prescription for President Obama,” the info for the eye chart — which costs a conveniently priced $20.16 — says.
Other items for sale in the store don’t necessarily have the same quirk factor — although there is a $15 “NSA Spy Cam Blocker” — but will have supporters digging deep into their wallets. A woven blanket emblazoned with an image of a waving Paul runs $75 and a Constitution autographed by the lawmaker costs a whopping $1,000.
It also appears more products are on the way, with one section touting Paul’s “Fashion for a Cause.”
“It’s easy to be a fashion plate for the world’s biggest brands. When you wear the Rand Brand, you look good and stand for something bigger than all of us … liberty,” the site says. While Paul, 52, is known for his affinity for turtlenecks and jeans, the site says, “Thomas Jefferson would be proud.”
