Mom who crashed sons’ C-SPAN debate invited to correspondents’ dinner

The mother who called into C-SPAN during a live discussion between her sons is getting the VIP treatment as a guest at this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

ITK has learned that Joyce Woodhouse — who’s mom to a pair sons on opposite ends of the political spectrum — will be amongst a select group attending a pre-dinner reception with President Obama and Michelle Obama on April 25.

{mosads}The Woodhouse matriarch, along with sons, Brad, former Democratic National Committee communications director, and Dallas, founder of the Republican-boosting Carolina Rising, shot to C-SPAN and Web stardom last December when the siblings appeared as guests on “Washington Journal.”

Joyce unexpectedly called into the show and offered up several zingers aimed at her surprised offspring.

“I disagree that all families are like ours,” said Woodhouse in a thick North Carolina accent. “I don’t know many families that are fighting at Thanksgiving.” Then, she playfully quipped, “I was very glad that this Thanksgiving was a year that you two were supposed to go to your in-laws.”

A video of the call went viral, becoming C-SPAN’s fifth most-watched YouTube clip.

The Woodhouse family will attend the correspondents’ dinner as guests of C-SPAN. While the network — which broadcasts the soiree each year — doesn’t typically invite celebrity guests, spokesman Howard Mortman told North Carolina newspaper The News and Observer that the outlet wanted to include the trio this year.

“For C-SPAN she personifies the value of including calls — the views, comments, opinions of our audience — in our programming,” Mortman says.
