My Brother’s Keeper doc to air on Father’s Day

The Discovery Channel and Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network will simulcast a documentary film about President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative.

{mosads}“Rise: The Promise of My Brother’s Keeper” will air on June 21, Father’s Day, and will explore “the lives and families of boys and young men from four programs around the U.S. that are living the principles of the My Brother’s Keeper initiative,” a Wednesday news release says.

Launched by Obama last year, My Brother’s Keeper is aimed at providing greater assistance and opportunities for young minority men. Earlier this month, Obama announced the creation of a nonprofit group dedicated to the same mission, called the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance.

“As President Obama has made abundantly clear, now more than ever we need to change the narrative in this country around boys and young men of color,” John Hoffman, executive vice president of documentaries and specials for Discovery Channel, which produced the film, said in a statement.
