Merkel outranks Clinton on Forbes list
Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama are joined by Beyonce and Taylor Swift on Forbes magazine’s 2015 list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.
{mosads}Clinton, a 2016 Democratic presidential candidate and former secretary of State, snags the second-highest spot on the list released Tuesday, behind German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who also took No. 1 in 2014. Clinton has appeared on the Forbes list every year since it was first launched in 2004.
Michelle Obama is ranked 10th (two slots lower than last year), behind Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki. An accompanying profile for Obama says, “While her husband may sit in the Oval Office, First Lady Michelle Obama has her own power seat in the White House.”
Among the many other notable females to make the “powerful” cut: Oprah Winfrey comes in just two slots behind Obama in 12th place, “Drunk in Love” singer Beyonce places 21st, Attorney General Loretta Lynch lands at No. 34, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) takes the 38th ranking, actresses Angelina Jolie and Sofia Vergara are Nos. 54 and 57, and Taylor Swift appears for the first time on the list, in 64th place.
