Internet star Wally the Bunny lends support to pet-focused bill
A bunny who spends time as a viral Internet sensation is hopping up to the plate to support a bill from Rep. Katherine Clark (D-Mass.).
Wally the Bunny, who boasts a hair (and hare) -raising 180,000-plus followers on Instagram, is throwing his support behind a bipartisan bill from Clark and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.).
The Pet and Women Safety (PAWS) Act would allocate federal funds in order to help protect the pets of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence.
“Many people don’t know that threatening and/or harming pets is a strategy used by abusers to instill fear and exert control over victims of domestic violence,” the fluffy-faced English Angora rabbit’s social media manager wrote in an Instagram post this week.
Wally, who sports a poodle-like look and lives in Clark’s district, has “always wanted to get involved in more social justice causes,” his owner, Molly, says.
