Klobuchar reveals cleavage-related snafu

Sen. Amy Klobuchar says she accidentally offered some PG-13-rated images to C-SPAN viewers before being instructed to fix her shirt while presiding over the Senate one day.

The Minnesota Democrat writes in her just-released memoir, “The Senator Next Door,” that she suffered the unintentional snafu during her first few months in the Senate after being elected in 2007.

{mosads}“One sleepy Thursday afternoon, while presiding over an empty Senate chamber, I got an anonymous note passed through a Senate page that read, ‘Senator Klobuchar, pull up your shirt, your cleavage is showing,’” the former county attorney writes.

“I bet that never happened to Mike Mansfield or Everett Dirksen,” Klobuchar adds of the former famed (male) Senate leaders. Although, as Klobuchar notes, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was “called out for the same thing when she gave a speech on the Senate floor” in 2007.

“I never did figure out who gave me that oh-so-helpful tip,” Klobuchar says of the cleavage-related caper. “But since the chamber was empty, it must have been someone who was watching the C-SPAN feed.”

But Klobuchar, 55, says she couldn’t avoid some good-natured taunting from Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), who “particularly enjoyed ribbing me about it.” Tester, who Klobuchar affirms did not send her the original note, would send her “anonymous” messages every time she presided over the Senate.

“In bold print they would say things like, ‘YOUR EARRINGS DON’T MATCH’ or ‘YOUR SHIRT IS WRINKLED, IRON IT.’ ”
