Chelsea Clinton speaks up on Kanye West’s ambitions

Don’t count Chelsea Clinton among Kanye West’s high-profile supporters for a 2020 White House bid just yet.

The daughter of 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton says if the “Yeezus” rapper was to actually throw his hat in the next presidential race, her support would depend “on who he’d be running against.”

During an acceptance speech at last month’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), West announced, “I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”

{mosads}When asked by MTV News in a clip posted Sunday if she thought West would actually follow through with his proclaimed political ambitions, Clinton responded, “Well you’d have to ask him that. But I definitely think who runs for office is really important.”

The 35-year-old former White House resident added, “And even if him just saying that helps spark a little boy or a little girl who was watching the VMAs to think, ‘Oh wow, well maybe I should do that,’ that’s awesome.”

Clinton, who works with her family’s eponymous foundation, sat down with MTV News to detail a partnership between the music channel’s Look Different campaign and the Clinton Foundation’s No Ceilings project. According to MTV, “These two efforts are joining forces to highlight the issue of empowerment for girls and women.”
