Actors join push for D.C. statehood
WE HEAR: A “West Wing” star is joining the debate over D.C. statehood.
Richard Schiff, who played fictional White House Communications Director Toby Ziegler on NBC’s longrunning political drama, was among the celebs over the weekend at the Creative Coalition’s Voices of Impact dinner in West Hollywood.
{mosads}Also eyed at the soiree, which is held to lobby Congress for full federal representation for the nation’s capital, was “Spectre” actor Christoph Waltz, “Better Call Saul’s” Jonathan Banks (a Washington native), D.C.’s so-called shadow senator Paul Strauss, actress Tichina Arnold, “Sex and the City’s” Evan Handler, and actor Blair Redford.
Word is that Schiff and Banks were so moved by the evening’s mission, that they filmed a series of public service announcements to push for statehood.
Our insider says that Waltz, a two-time Oscar winner, also mentioned to Strauss that he has the District on the brain since the city serves as the backdrop for his upcoming directorial debut, “The Worst Marriage in Georgetown.”
