Rita Moreno: Trump ‘more than a bit of a fool’ who won’t win Republican nomination
Rita Moreno is slamming Donald Trump, calling him “more than a bit of a fool” who won’t win his party’s presidential nomination because “I don’t think the GOP will let him.”
“I really think [Republicans are] going to make it so difficult,” the “West Side Story” star told ITK at Sunday’s Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, where she was one of five recipients of the prestigious award.
{mosads}Moreno admitted, however, that she wasn’t sure “how they would do that.”
The outspoken Puerto Rico-born performer didn’t hold back in her criticism of the real estate mogul, saying Trump “represents a certain lunatic fringe. I mean, that’s not a mystery. He says some really disastrously cruel and awful things.”
Moreno, 83, also questioned polls showing Trump leading the GOP pack. “Just because his numbers are going up doesn’t mean that all of the United States feels that way. People get fooled by these numbers.”
“All of the United States is not going to vote for him,” Moreno added, “I don’t think it’s
possible.”
The triple threat — and one of only a few entertainers to take home an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award — said she’s supporting Hillary Clinton in 2016, calling the Democratic front-runner a “sane voice.”
When ITK asked Moreno what she would say to Trump if she met him in person, she replied, “Actually, nothing. What do you say to someone like that?”
“I think he’s more than a bit of a fool. I think he’s a very coarse man, insensitive, has no sense of dignity,” she said.
“There’s nothing to say to him. Just let him hang himself.”
