Amy Schumer attends White House event on guns
Among those in the audience for President Obama’s announcement of new executive actions on guns: actress Amy Schumer.
{mosads}The “Trainwreck” star, who has become a vocal proponent of gun control, was eyed sitting in the front row of the White House’s East Room on Tuesday as Obama unveiled new executive actions designed to curtail gun violence.
In July, a gunman killed three audience members during a screening of Schumer’s movie at a Louisiana theater. Schumer responded to the deadly shooting, saying, “My heart is broken.”
Obama defended his commitment to Second Amendment rights but said other constitutional rights are being violated by gun violence.
“Our right to peaceful assembly, that right was robbed from moviegoers in Aurora and Lafayette,” he said.
The 34-year-old comedian, a cousin of Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), has made multiple public pushes for Congress to pass gun legislation that would expand background checks.
Ahead of the gathering at the White House, Schumer had tweeted:
