Hillary mulls a selfie-free White House
Hillary Clinton supporters may have to put down their phones and selfie sticks if she wins the White House — the former secretary of State says there’s a possibility presidential selfies could be nixed under a Clinton administration.
{mosads}“There are different considerations when you are the president, obviously,” Clinton, 68, tells People magazine in an interview published Friday. “It does unnerve the Secret Service — I know that from talking with the president and talking to some of the agents that I know so well — when somebody reaches for a selfie and there’s other things that are questionable.”
While on the campaign trail Clinton says she recognizes such photos are “part of politics” and she’s a selfie-taking pro, the Democratic front-runner tells the mag that things may change come November.
“I can see why, when you’re president [you might ban selfies] but until I hope that happens, I’m going to be ‘selfie-ing.’ Is that a word?” said Clinton.
But Clinton says all the selfies she snaps have improved her photo-taking skills and flexibility: “I don’t have that long an arm,” she says, “but my reach is a little more than it was before and I figured out how to hit the button.”
Clinton had previously lamented the ubiquitous “tyranny of the selfie” in an interview with Esquire, missing the days when interactions were more based on a handshake.
President Obama became the first commander in chief to use a selfie stick in a video produced by BuzzFeed last year. But he has sometimes declined to engage in the ubiquitous practice with camera-holding onlookers. When one guest came equipped with a selfie stick during a visit to the White House last June, Obama proclaimed with a laugh, “No selfies!”
Selfie sticks were banned from public tours of the White House in July.
