Celeb chanteuses lend voices for ‘Let Girls Learn’ anthem
“Since U Been Gone” singer Kelly Clarkson, “Work It” rap artist Missy Elliott, R&B songstress Kelly Rowland and “Glee” star Lea Michele are teaming up with Michelle Obama, performing a new song to promote the first lady’s girls education initiative.
{mosads}The tune, called “This Is for My Girls,” was penned by Grammy winner Diane Warren, who’s also written hits such as Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” and Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me.”
The song, announced Tuesday and executive produced by AOL’S MAKERS, will serve as an anthem for Obama’s “Let Girls Learn” program, which aims to expand education access for young women around the world.
“This Is for My Girls,” which also features vocals from Janelle Monae, Chloe x Halle, Jada Grace and Zendaya, will be performed live for the first time on Wednesday at SXSW. Obama is poised to deliver the keynote address at the Austin music festival.
Organizers say proceeds from iTunes purchases of the song will benefit the Peace Corps Let Girls Learn Fund.
