Schwarzenegger: ‘If I’d been born in America, I would’ve run’

Arnold Schwarzenegger says if things were different, he’d be running for president right now: “If I’d been born in America, I would’ve run.”

“Because now? This was a very good time to get in the race,” the former Republican governor of California, who was born in Austria, tells AdWeek in an interview published Monday.

{mosads}The “Terminator” star tweeted earlier this month that he would not be supporting GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, writing, “For the first time since I became a citizen in 1983, I will not vote for the Republican candidate for president.”

Schwarzenegger, 69, said in the Oct. 8 post: “As proud as I am to label myself a Republican, there is one label that I hold above all else: American. So I want to take a moment today to remind my fellow Republicans that it is not only acceptable to choose your country over your party — it is your duty.”

Instead of recovering from a White House bid this January, Schwarzenegger will be taking the reins on “Celebrity Apprentice,” NBC’s reality TV competition, formerly starring Trump.

So far there are a few options for a possible send-off line to contestants to replace Trump’s “You’re fired!” according to AdWeek.

“Hasta la vista, baby,” is one option, naturally, with losers possibly being shuttled off in a helicopter instead of a limo — making the well-worn but somehow still funny ‘Get to the chopper!’ another possibility,” says the magazine.
