Ark., Texas senators put cheese dip vs. queso to the test

Two states’ worth of Republican senators are going head-to-head (or block-to-block), with a cheesy blind taste test to determine whose ooey gooey dairy product reigns supreme.

Arkansas Sens. Tom Cotton and John Boozman are putting up their cheese dip against the Texas queso touted by the Lone Star’s Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz on Wednesday in a blind sampling by their colleagues in Congress.

The cheese-filled face-off at the Capitol stems from a Wall Street Journal article published last month about the “long-simmering divisions” between cheese dip versus queso lovers.

The cheese dip from the Arkansas delegation will be provided by the current World Cheese Dip professional division champion, Heights Taco & Tamale Co. in Little Rock, while the Texas queso comes courtesy of Uncle Julio’s in Dallas.

UPDATE: The competition was sharp, but the Arkansas cheese dip burnt its rival, besting the Texas queso at Wednesday’s taste test.

“We’re happy our colleagues validated what we’ve known all along: Arkansas cheese dip is the best in the United States, and the world,” Cotton and Boozman said in a joint statement.

The victorious pair added, “Senator Cruz and Senator Cornyn: you’re welcome to cross the state line for some real cheese dip anytime.”
