First lady offers touching farewell to White House staffers

WE HEAR: Michelle Obama had the place in tears during a thank-you speech as she hosted her final holiday party for White House staffers.

{mosads}The soon-to-be former FLOTUS held the holiday shindig at one of her fave pizza spots, We the Pizza, on Capitol Hill on Tuesday. The eatery, which both President Obama and the first lady have frequented over the years, is owned by “Top Chef” alum Spike Mendelsohn.

The festivities lasted until after 10 p.m., but the party then continued late into the night at Mendelsohn’s French hot spot, Béarnaise.

We hear that’s where Obama delivered remarks thanking her staff for their hard work. Obama’s words “left everyone in tears,” according to our tipster.
