‘Queer Eye’ gets reboot for the Trump era

The reality television show “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” is being rebooted by Netflix 10 years after it went off the air, Entertainment Weekly reported on Tuesday.

According to the statement from the producers, the goal of the show will be to bring Americans closer at a time when the county “stands divided” after a divisive presidential election.

“In a time when America stands divided and the future seems uncertain, a team of five brave men will try to bring us closer together with laughter, heart, and just the right amount of moisturizer,” the producers said in a statement, as reported by EW.

According to the report, while the online streaming giant Netflix is looking to bring on a different “Fab 5” for their version of the show, the original cast may also be involved.

“The Emmy Award-winning Queer Eye is back and ready to Make America Fabulous Again. With a new Fab 5 and the show’s toughest missions to date, Queer Eye moves from the Big Apple to turn the Red States pink — one makeover at a time,” the statement said.

The announcement comes in the wake of heightened political tensions between the LGBT community and President Trump’s administration. Vice President Pence is a vocal opponent of gay rights, and advocacy groups fear a White House backlash to the liberal policies of the Obama administration.
