Lin-Manuel Miranda releases new ‘Immigrants’ music video
“Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda released a music video on Wednesday titled “Immigrants” that features verses from immigrant rappers and staged footage from fictional Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation raids.
Miranda described the track on Genius as a “musical counterweight” to the “xenophobia and vilification of immigrants” present in U.S. politics.
“This election cycle has brought xenophobia and vilification of immigrants back to the forefront of US politics. This is a musical counterweight,” Miranda wrote. “Each MC culturally represents from a different place on the map.”
“These are my favorite MCs from all over the world,” Miranda continued. “They can speak to this theme from their brilliant perspectives.”
The music video features rappers K’naan, Residente and Snow Tha Product, as well as actor Riz Ahmed of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” fame.

The song’s title is inspired from a song from the musical “Hamilton” called “Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down).” In the video, rappers deliver their respective verses over footage of immigrants traveling on top of boxcars, ICE agents arresting undocumented immigrants and depictions of immigrants at Ellis Island in New York City.
Miranda announced a sweepstakes coinciding with the video’s release. For $10, fans can enter to win a meet-and-greet with Miranda at the premiere for the Los Angeles staging of “Hamilton.”
Rolling Stone reports that Miranda will appear on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” on Thursday to promote the #Ham4All challenge, where fans rap their favorite songs from the musical. It was unclear if Miranda will himself perform on Meyers’ show.
