Sanders meets puppy named after him on ‘The View’

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday was introduced to his namesake — Joy Behar’s new puppy, Bernie.

Sanders was being interviewed on ABC’s “The View” when Behar had the puppy brought out on set.

“Let’s get to the real reason we’re here today, Bernie,” Behar said. “I want you to meet my new dog Bernie, and I named him after you.”

{mosads}Co-host Sarah Haines jokingly asked Behar whether the dog got his name because he looked like the senator.

“What’s the similarity besides the genius of the dog? Well I’ll tell you Bernie, this dog believes in single-payer for dogs,” Behar said. “He told the veterinarian, ‘That’s it with this insurance baloney. Just take care of me and spay me yesterday.’ ”

Behar asked Sanders if he was happy with his namesake.

“Oh absolutely, looks like a very smart dog to me,” Sanders replied.

This isn’t the first time Behar has paid Sanders a compliment — she said during the 2016 Democratic presidential primary that while she wanted Sanders to drop out of the race, she was “sexually attracted” to him.
