Cast of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ takes a knee

The creator of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” along with several of its cast members took a knee on Tuesday to protest President Trump’s criticisms of NFL players who choose to kneel during the national anthem.

Shonda Rhimes, the show’s creator and writer, posted the photo to Instagram. Cast members Jesse Wiliiams and Ellen Pompeo can also be seen in the picture.

The post comes amid the continued fallout from Trump’s suggestion last week that NFL owners fire players who choose to kneel, rather than stand, during “The Star-Spangled Banner.” 

Despite the onslaught of criticism and widespread protests from athletes, the president has doubled on his comments, suggesting on Tuesday that the league create a rule barring layers from kneeling during the anthem. 

“But we have to show total respect for our national anthem, for our flag, for our country — we have to do it,” Trump told reporters Wednesday
