Colbert: Trump is lying about the tax plan not being good for him
Stephen Colbert ripped into President Trump’s tax plan Thursday night, saying the president is “lying” about the plan “not being good” for him personally.
In Indiana on Wednesday, the president pitched his tax reform framework, touting it as a “middle-class” tax plan that wouldn’t benefit wealthy people like himself.
“I’m doing the right thing and it’s not good for me, believe me,” Trump said.
But the comedian, citing reports that Trump’s tax cuts would save himself $31 million in taxes, based on the last available tax returns from the president, said that Trump is lying.
“I believe you,” Colbert said. “Doing the right thing never seems to be good for Donald Trump.”
“Those are lotto numbers,” Colbert said. “That’s not just Powerball, that’s ‘I’m in power’ ball.”
Colbert also slammed the GOP’s new attempt to pitch the tax reform plan to the middle class.
A video, posted on the Senate GOP’s Twitter account, features Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) telling viewers that the plan will help them “#KeepYoMoney.” The video has been accused of using Scott, who is black, to pander to black constituents.
