James Corden: ‘Gun violence should not be a staple of American life’

James Corden took on gun violence Monday night after the mass shooting in Las Vegas.

“The Late Late Show” host’s opening monologue on CBS had a somber tone as he spoke of the tragedy, which left at least 59 dead and 500 injured.

Corden, who is British, said that the wide availability of guns in the U.S. is what sets the country apart from other developed nations where mass shootings do not occur as regularly.

“It’s hard for me to fathom, but it should be hard for everyone to fathom,” he said. “Gun violence should not be a staple of American life.”

{mosads}He noted that the Las Vegas attack is the second time the record for the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. has been set since he moved to the country two and a half years ago.

Corden commended the individuals who lined up to donate blood hours after the shooting, as he said they did after the May bombing in Manchester, England, and the shooting in June 2016 at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla.

“It’s what they do in every city where a horrific attack takes place,” Corden said. “Those will be far greater examples of true human nature than that shooter on the 32nd floor.”
