Seth Meyers to Congress on gun violence: ‘Are there no steps we can take?’
Seth Meyers criticized Congress’s response to the Las Vegas mass shooting on his show Monday night.
Speaking about the frequency of mass shootings in the U.S., the “Late Night” host said he knows his words won’t have an impact on a government that refuses to act on gun violence after multiple tragedies.
“To Congress, I’d just like to say, are there no steps we can take as a nation to prevent gun violence?” he said. “Or, is this just how it is and how it’s going to continue to be.”

Referencing the White House statement Monday that “now is not the time” for political debate about gun control, Meyers urged lawmakers to be frank about their intentions.
“It would be so much more honest if you would just admit that your plan is never to talk about it and never take any action,” Meyers said.
He also brought up Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), who returned to the House floor last week after surviving a shooting in June. When he addressed Congress, Scalise said that his survival is “proof that miracles happen.”
“Is that the best plan D.C. has for dealing with gun violence?” Meyers said. “When there’s a shooting, we just pray for a miracle?”
Meyers ended his monologue by praising the first responders and civilians who stepped in to help shooting victims Sunday night.
