Kaepernick thanks Eminem for shout-out in anti-Trump rap
NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick thanked Eminem for his viral rap that praised Kaepernick’s national anthem protest.
The four-minute freestyle rap, called “The Storm,” in which Eminem attacks President Trump’s policies, tweets and leadership, includes several lines about Kaepernick and the NFL protests he began last year.
The rap debuted Tuesday night in a pre-recorded video during the BET Hip Hop awards.
“I appreciate you @Eminem,” Kaepernick tweeted, along with an emoji of a balled fist.

Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 to raise awareness about racial inequality and police brutality. The protests swept through the NFL and other professional sports last month after Trump said that NFL officials should fire athletes who participate in the protests.

“Now if you’re a black athlete, you’re a spoiled little brat for trying to use your platform or your stature to try to give those a voice who don’t have one,” Eminem rapped.
The rapper lashed out at Trump’s argument that the NFL protests are disrespectful to the military, homing in on the president’s past comments about Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who was held prisoner during the Vietnam War, when he said in 2015, “He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
“F— that,” Eminem said, raising a fist in the air in a nod to solidarity with the fight for racial equality. “This is for Colin, ball up a fist, and keep that shit balled like Donald the bitch.”
A report Tuesday said NFL owners will consider a rule change at a meeting next week that would require players to stand for the national anthem at football games.
Trump responded with an early morning tweet Wednesday, saying “it is about time” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is “demanding” players stand for the national anthem.
“It is about time that Roger Goodell of the NFL is finally demanding that all players STAND for our great National Anthem-RESPECT OUR COUNTRY,” the president tweeted.
