Melania Trump calls for aid to hurricane victims in new PSA
First lady Melania Trump is urging Americans to help with hurricane relief efforts in a new public service announcement, the White House announced Tuesday.
“The president and I have witnessed firsthand the compassion and commitment of Americans as friends, neighbors, and strangers continue to volunteer time and money to help one another following the recent hurricanes,” Trump says in the video, which was recorded in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“Your help is still needed.”
{mosads}The first lady’s message comes after Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the mainland United States were battered by multiple hurricanes this season.
President Trump’s administration has been criticized over its initial relief efforts in Puerto Rico, whose residents are dealing with a lack of electricity and water shortages following the storms.
President Trump and the first lady traveled to the United States territory earlier this month to assess the damage.
