Orrin Hatch thanks Jenna Fischer for apology over inaccurate tweet

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on Wednesday thanked actress Jenna Fischer for apologizing for sharing outdated and inaccurate information about the Republican tax bill.

“Very gracious, a great example of how civil discussion can and should take place,” Hatch tweeted at Fischer.

Fischer, best known for her role as Pam on “The Office,” earlier Wednesday issued a lengthy apology after her tweet went viral stating that the Republican tax bill prevents teachers from deducting the cost of classroom supplies.

While the original House version scrapped the deduction, the final version of the bill restored the provision that allows teachers to deduct classroom spending up to $250. 

“I feel genuinely bad about getting my facts wrong and I’m sorry. I did not mean to spread misinformation. I was well-intentioned, but I was behind on my research,” Fischer wrote on Twitter.

Fischer deleted the inaccurate tweet from Dec. 23.

Hatch, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, was one of the key architects of the Republican tax bill that President Trump signed last week.
