Fox News host: Criticism of Kanye for supporting Trump is like McCarthyism

Fox News host Jeanine Pirro said on Friday that liberals criticizing rapper Kanye West for his support of President Trump resembles McCarthyism.

“The frenzy and the hysteria that we have been hearing about from the left criticizing Kanye is reminiscent, to me, of McCarthyism,” Pirro said, according to Mediaite, referring to the 1950s campaign against communism, including in Hollywood, led by Sen. Joseph McCarthy (R-Wis.).

Pirro’s comments come after West expressed support for Trump via Twitter earlier this week, calling him his brother and saying they are both “dragon energy.”

West also shared a picture of a “Make America Great Again” hat signed by Trump.

Soon after West’s tweets, Trump thanked him via Twitter and retweeted West’s tweet in which he stated that “the mob” can’t stop him from loving Trump.

West’s support for the president triggered an avalanche of criticism that led West’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, and Chance the Rapper to publicly defend West on Twitter. Both suggested West should be allowed to think for himself and take stances that might be unpopular to others.

“Forget about the fact that black and Hispanic unemployment is the lowest in history,” Pirro added. “But it is such group-think, it’s McCarthyism. It’s frightening to me.”
