Tiger Woods on Trump: ‘You have to respect the office’

Golfing great Tiger Woods on Sunday said that you have to “respect the office” of the presidency when asked to defend his relationship with President Trump.

“Well, he’s the president of the United States. You have to respect the office,” Woods said after the final round of the Northern Trust when a reporter asked him what he would say to those who question Woods’s friendly relationship with Trump, ESPN reports.

{mosads}“No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office,” Woods continued.

Woods and the president have played golf together before, something Woods was upfront about after the tournament.

Woods told reporters, “I’ve known Donald for a number of years. We’ve played golf together. We’ve had dinner together.”

“I’ve known him pre-presidency and obviously during his presidency,” Woods said.

Reporters asked if Woods would say more about race relations in America and the golfer replied, “No. I just finished 72 holes and am really hungry.”

Woods has also played golf with former presidents George H.W. Bush, Clinton and Obama.
