Ginsburg: Oscar nomination for ‘RBG’ movie is ’eminently well-deserved’

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said Tuesday that the Oscar nomination for “RBG,” the documentary film based on her life, was “eminently well-deserved,” CNN reported.

“RBG,” a CNN film directed by Betsy West and Julie Cohen, was nominated for Best Documentary at next month’s Academy Awards.

{mosads}The two filmmakers called Ginsburg to share the good news and said she “sounded strong and cheerful.”

“We were excited to be the ones to give Justice Ginsburg the good news that RBG has been nominated for Best Documentary,” West and Cohen told CNN.

“We reached her on the phone at her home in Washington this morning. She congratulated us and said the nomination was ’eminently well-deserved.’ She sounded strong and cheerful and said she is writing opinions and continuing to stay on top of work.”

“RBG” will be competing with “Free Solo,” “Hale County This Morning, This Evening,” “Minding the Gap” and “Of Fathers and Sons” for the Academy Award.

Ginsburg, 85, had surgery last month to remove two cancerous nodules from her lower left lung. She missed oral arguments at the Supreme Court earlier this month for the first time in her more than 25-year career on the bench due to her recovery.

She has also canceled two public speaking events as she continues to recover.
