Martin Sheen taps ‘West Wing’ co-star Bradley Whitford to help deny support for RFK Jr

Martin Sheen is tapping his former “West Wing” co-stars to help get the word out that he’s not supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s White House bid.

“There’s a story going around saying that Martin Sheen is supporting [Kennedy] for president,” Bradley Whitford, who played White House deputy chief of staff Josh Lyman on the long-running NBC political drama, wrote Thursday on social media.

“The story is incorrect,” Whitford wrote to his more than 475,000 followers on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Martin asked us to post this on his behalf,” Whitford said, before sharing a message from Sheen, who famously played “West Wing’s” fictional President Josiah Bartlet.

“I wholeheartedly support President Joe Biden and the democratic ticket in 2024,” Sheen said, according to Whitford.

A similar sentiment appeared on Sheen’s verified Instagram page, with a graphic on his Instagram Story saying, “I do not endorse RFK Jr nor will I be attending his party.” The Instagram post also reiterated Sheen’s support for Biden’s reelection bid.

The 83-year-old actor is the second high-profile figure in recent days to distance himself from Kennedy’s campaign. On Wednesday, singer Dionne Warwick said she didn’t agree to attend a fundraiser later this month for Kennedy, despite claims from a super PAC backing the White House hopeful listing her as a “well wisher guest.” Sheen’s name was also among the entertainers listed for the event.

Kennedy is running as an independent in the 2024 race.

Sheen and many of his fellow former “West Wing” cast mates have been longtime Democratic Party supporters. In 2021, some of the show’s cast reunited for a fundraiser organized by then-President-elect Biden’s inaugural committee.
