Phillies baseball player Odubel Herrera arrested over alleged domestic violence

Phillies center fielder Odubel Herrera was arrested Monday following a domestic violence incident, the Philly Inquirer reported.

Atlantic City, N.J., police told the outlet Tuesday that Herrera was arrested in his room at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino.

{mosads}Officers said they found a 20-year-old woman from Philadelphia, identified as Herrera’s girlfriend, with “visible signs of injury to her arms and neck that was sustained after being assaulted during a dispute.”

Herrera was charged with simple assault and released on a summons with a future court date, according to the Inquirer.

In a statement Tuesday, Phillies said that MLB put Herrera on “administrative leave” and that the organization takes “any domestic violence accusation seriously and strongly support the Joint Domestic Violence Policy agreed upon by MLB and the MLBPA.”

Several MLB players, most recently Cubs shortstop Addison Russell, have been punished under the league’s domestic violence policy, according to the Inquirer.
