Joe Biden accuser to launch her own talk show
The former Nevada assemblywoman who said former Vice President Joe Biden touched her inappropriately will launch a talk show targeting Latinx millennials, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Former Assemblywoman Lucy Flores (D) will launch the series, “Jefa Status,” or “Boss Status,” through Latinx-focused media company LATV, according to the report. Flores will interview prominent Latinas such as singer Paulina Aguirre and activist Jessica Morales Rocketto, according to the publication.
{mosads}”My voice is very honest and that’s what I’m known for. My career was built on talking about issues that are important to me and my community,” Flores said. “It may have started with Joe Biden but that wasn’t the primary reason why I spoke out. Because it isn’t just about Joe Biden and his behavior. Powerful men need to recognize when there’s a power dynamic, because oftentimes the person on the receiving end doesn’t feel like they can say anything about their discomfort.”
Flores noted Latino television characters were only 5.2 percent of speaking film roles in 2017, far short of the 18 percent of the population they make up, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Flores said the Latino community lacks the inroads in representation recently made by Asian American and African American creators and filmmakers
“We don’t have that quite yet,” she said
Flores also declined to make an endorsement from among the crowded Democratic presidential field, although she expressed admiration for Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and said a Biden victory should not be assumed despite his wide polling lead.
“If there is one thing we have learned, polls are increasingly unrealistic and unreliable,” she told the publication.
Flores made headlines in March when she wrote an essay for The Cut detailing an encounter at a public event in which she said Biden kissed the back of her head and sniffed her hair. Several other women made similar allegations, prompting Biden to release a video statement pledging to be more mindful of women’s boundaries.
