Christie calls GOP Taylor Swift conspiracies ‘outrageous’

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie blasted the conspiracy theories connecting pop singer Taylor Swift and the NFL as “outrageous” on Sunday.

NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Christie on “Meet the Press” about the conspiracy theories circulating on conservative social media that the NFL rigged the Super Bowl for Swift’s boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce, and his team to help get President Biden reelected.

The former governor said those theories were “outrageous” before praising the Grammy award winner.

“Ridiculous. Ridiculous. Look, Taylor Swift is one of the great American success stories. We should be celebrating her, not having all these crazy conspiracy theories. But this is the kind of thing that Donald Trump brings about,” Christie added.

After the Chiefs clinched a spot in the Super Bowl for the second year in a row, conservative media was inundated with unsubstantiated claims surrounding Swift’s relationship, the NFL and the Democratic Party. Those theories also jumped up after The New York Times reported Biden was seeking an endorsement from Swift.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) also weighed in on the Super Bowl game Sunday, saying that he hopes the San Francisco 49ers win the big game so “we can get rid of these conspiracy theories about Taylor Swift.”

The Super Bowl is scheduled for 6:30 EST and will be broadcasted on CBS.
