Raptors president under investigation for allegedly pushing sheriff’s deputy after NBA Finals

Toronto Raptors president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri is under investigation for allegedly pushing a sheriff’s deputy after his team won the NBA Finals Thursday night.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement obtained by NBC Bay Area that the executive didn’t have proper credentials to come on the court after the game ended.

Alameda officials are calling the incident a misdemeanor battery on an officer and they, along with the Oakland Police Department, are investigating the matter.

“We can confirm our deputy was pushed and struck by a Raptors executive after he asked him for his credentials to go on the court at the end of the game,” Sgt. Ray Kelly with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to NBC Bay area.

“We are working with the Oakland Police Department to file a report and contact witnesses and review video.”

Ujiri was not detained, and exited the arena to celebrate Canada’s first NBA championship.
