Mueller prosecutors offering insights about Trump investigation in new book

Prosecutors who worked with former special counsel Robert Mueller on his investigation focused on Russian interference in the 2016 election and potential collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin are set to have a book published in the fall, according to a Thursday press release.

“This is the inside story of the most intense investigation of Trump’s Presidency, told for the first time,” according to the release about the book, “Interference: The Inside Story of Trump, Russia, and the Mueller Investigation,” from publishing company Simon & Schuster.

According to the release, the book will be published Sep. 24, only a few weeks before the 2024 presidential election on Nov. 5.

“The book is written by the team that led the investigation with Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller, III: Aaron Zebley, James Quarles, and Andrew Goldstein, with an introduction by Mueller,” the release continued. “It completes and corrects the historical record of the only federal criminal investigation of President Trump while he was in office. The book carries special relevance today, as the Supreme Court has dramatically limited the conduct by a president that can be prosecuted—or even investigated and brought to light.”

Mueller’s investigation lasted 22 months, beginning in late 2017 and ending in mid-2019. He did not establish that former President Trump or those in his campaign colluded with Moscow to influence the election eight years ago; however, Mueller and his team turned down a conclusion on whether Trump obstructed justice.

“The authors’ account is a real-life thriller, placing the reader inside the room for the most consequential and difficult decisions of the special counsel’s tumultuous two years. Fewer than four months into the Trump presidency, former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III was called by the Department of Justice to serve as special counsel,” the release reads.

“Mueller’s primary task: to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election—an operation intended to make Donald Trump president—and any links this operation might have had to the Trump campaign,” the release continues. “Mueller’s other task: to determine whether the president himself had interfered in the investigation of Russia’s actions.”
