‘Hamilton’ to make leap from Broadway to big screen
“Hamilton” is headed from Broadway to the big screen, set to debut in movie theaters across the country.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, the musical’s creator, announced Monday that the show — a favorite among many political figures, including former President Obama — would be making its theatrical debut next year

The hit Broadway musical — which has smashed box office records since debuting in 2015 — tells the story of Alexander Hamilton through rap and R&B music.
Disney said in an announcement about the film version of “Hamilton” that the project would be a “leap forward in the art of ‘live capture.’ “
“This movie transports its audience into the world of the Broadway show in a uniquely intimate way,” a news release said.
The 44th president has called Miranda’s show “a favorite in the Obama household.”
“In fact, ‘Hamilton,’ I’m pretty sure, is the only thing that Dick Cheney and I agree on,” Obama quipped in 2016.
In November 2016, then-Vice President-elect Mike Pence made headlines when he attended a performance of the musical in New York.
Actor Brandon Victor Dixon thanked Pence from the stage for attending, before saying on behalf of the show’s cast, “We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. We hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us.”
Miranda, 40, has been a vocal and frequent critic of President Trump, particularly slamming the administration for its response to Hurricane Maria’s devastation of Puerto Rico in 2017.
