Robert De Niro is blasting Donald Trump as a “clown,” saying the former president doesn’t have the “right intentions” with his White House bid.
“I never wanted anything to do with him. He’s a jerk. He’s an idiot. Who wants to meet a clown like that?” De Niro asked on an episode of Max’s “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” released Friday.
“You’ve got to help everybody. People are going to get overlooked — that happens. But at least you have somebody who’s sensitive to the condition of the country, the people,” the “Killers of the Flower Moon” actor told Wallace when asked if he had a personal beef with Trump.
“And I’m not saying this like this because it’s Kamala Harris — but it is,” De Niro, 81, continued.
“We need someone like her to do it,” he said of the vice president.
“She’ll make mistakes. Of course, everybody does. But we need somebody with the right intentions. This guy has does not have the right intentions, and everybody knows that. It’s insanity. Period,” De Niro said.
He has been fiercely critical of Trump over the years. In May, before President Biden exited the White House race, the Academy Award winner narrated a campaign ad for the commander in chief that called Trump an “unhinged, power-hungry candidate.”
Trump has repeatedly slammed De Niro back, calling him a “wacko.”
When asked by Wallace if he worries that if Trump wins November’s election, he “would not give up power,” De Niro replied, “You know he won’t.”
“He’s never going to give it up,” De Niro added.
“And anybody who deludes themselves in thinking that he is, shame on you.”
