Patrick Ewing recovering at home after COVID-19 diagnosis

Georgetown University basketball coach and former New York Knicks star Patrick Ewing is recovering at home after being hospitalized for COVID-19, his son says.

“My father is now home and getting better. We’ll continue to watch his symptoms and follow the CDC guidelines,” Patrick Ewing Jr. tweeted Monday.

He also thanked hospital staff for taking care of his father during his stay, as well as people offering their thoughts and prayers.

The elder Ewing announced Friday that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Georgetown University said the coach was “under care and isolation” at a local hospital.

Ewing had a 17-year career in the NBA and was an 11-time All-Star. He appeared in the NBA Finals twice and won two Olympic gold medals. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame for his individual career and as part of the 1992 Olympic team.

Ewing has been the coach of the men’s basketball team at his alma mater since 2017.
