Snoop Dogg partners with Democrats to promote ballot drop boxes: ‘Drop it in the box’
Snoop Dogg is teaming up with Democrats to encourage voters to “drop it like it’s hot” — at the ballot box.
The “Gin and Juice” rapper is lending his 2004 hit, “Drop it Like it’s Hot,” to a campaign launched Monday by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) urging voters to place their ballots in drop box locations.
“This is the most important election of our lifetimes and it’s my first time voting. We need every single American to get out there and vote,” the 48-year-old performer, who was born Calvin Broadus, said in a statement. “It’s time for ya’ll to drop those ballots like they’re hot — in your local drop box. Vote early and let ‘em know our voices will be heard!”
In the 60-second ad from Chris Robinson — who directed music videos for Alicia Keys and Jay-Z — and released by the DNC, voters are seen depositing their ballots in official drop boxes as Snoop Dogg’s song plays in the background.
The video is set to run on social media sites, Hulu and YouTube in states including battlegrounds Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
The push by Democrats comes amid concerns across the country about the safety of in-person voting, and the ability of the Postal Service to handle a surge in absentee ballots, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
President Trump and his allies have railed against ballot drop sites, claiming the practice will lead to widespread voter fraud despite no supporting evidence.
